A Detailed Review of Pokemon Journey Together

The return of trainer owned cards in the English version of Battle Partners.

Pokemon Journey Together, known as Battle Partners in Japan, has brought back one of the most beloved mechanics of the TCG: trainer owned Pokemon. The first time we saw this was August 14th, 2000, and it was a major hit! Journey Together is a mix of nostalgia for older collectors and excitement for newer collectors, giving everyone a chance to find their favorite trainers paired up with some of their iconic Pokemon. What makes this special? We’ll fill you in on the details.

What’s in the Pokemon Journey Together Set?

As we near the end of the Scarlet & Violet era, Pokemon is giving us a strong lineup to close out 2025. In addition to the return of trainer owned cards, box topper cards return for the first time in more than 20 years in the Journey Together set. The box topper promo is the Illustration Rare N’s Reshiram with the Journey Together set logo stamp on the card, and it’s exclusive to the new Enhanced Booster Box.

Pokemon Journey Together offers a strong checklist of some of the most popular trainers and their ace Pokemon. The checklist of Special Illustration Rare cards is strong, with Lillie’s Clefairy ex as the headliner. But she’s not the only big card here! Salamence ex makes his long-awaited return, along with N’s Zoroark ex, Iono’s Bellibolt ex, Hop’s Zacian ex, and many more!

There’s also an amazing lineup of Illustration Rare cards to chase, including Articuno, Lillie’s Ribombee, Iono’s Wattrel, and Hop’s Wooloo. When you put Lillie, N, and Iono on the same checklist, it’s tough to get any better than that! As the Pokemon fans know, they’re three of some of the most popular characters in the entire franchise.

What Could This Mean for the Future of Pokemon Card Sets?

While we don’t have a crystal ball, the great thing about the release of Journey Together is the unlimited possibilities it opens for future sets. We could see more sets featuring trainer Pokemon going into the next generation. We also have Heat Wave Arena and Glory of Team Rocket around the corner, and they have trainer Pokemon too. Does this mean the next generation and era will have the same? We hope so!

What are the Best Cards in Journey Together?

The best cards to chase in Pokemon Journey Together are the Special Illustration Rare and Illustration Rare cards. For SIR cards, focus on Lillie’s Clefairy ex, Salamence ex, N’s Zoroark ex, Iono’s Bellibolt ex, and Hop’s Zacian ex. The best IR cards are Articuno, Lillie’s Ribombee, Iono’s Wattrel, and Hop’s Wooloo. Between their higher value and the beautiful artwork, you can never go wrong with these rare cards. They’re awesome to display in your binder or even get graded. As a one-stop shop for all your Pokemon needs, AA Mint Cards can help you send your top hits for grading.

Should You Collect Cards from Pokemon Journey Together?

We highly recommend the Journey Together set if you’re a fan of Lillie, N, Iono, and Hop! Additionally, some collectors are mainly focused on investing in Pokemon cards that may increase in value over time. While we can’t predict the future, we think Journey Together has the potential to rise in value.

What’s the Difference Between the Enhanced Booster Box and the Normal Booster Box?

The box topper promo card is exclusive to the new Enhanced Booster Box! This promo card is the Illustration Rare N’s Reshiram. It’s important to note that while you do have the chance to pull this card from the other products, the only place you can get this card with the exclusive Journey Together set logo stamp is in Enhanced Booster Boxes.

With this exclusive promo, this set has all the attributes to be highly collectible and sought after by all collectors for years to come.
