How Much Does PSA Grading Cost?

The cost of grading your sports cards with PSA.

There are many benefits to getting your sports and trading cards professionally graded. PSA grading is one of the most popular grading companies with collectors and investors around the sports and trading card hobby. PSA graded cards generally have a higher value than ungraded cards.

Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) History

PSA is the leading authentication and grading company in the sports and collectables space. Since it was founded in 1971, PSA has processed and certified over 75 million collectables. Of all the major grading companies, most collectors and investors prefer PSA graded sports and trading cards.

Understanding PSA Grading Process and Standards

There are four key characteristics of PSA card grading: centering, surface, corners, and edges. Professional graders verify authenticity before appraising each of these areas and assigning a single grade (1-10) based on overall condition. “Gem Mint 10” is the best grade a card can receive from PSA.

Why Should I Get My Cards Graded?

Grading your sports and trading cards with a professional grader like PSA confirms your card is authentic and also adds value. The higher the grade, the more valuable the card is. Generally, PSA graded cards are worth more than ungraded (raw) cards.

If you’re planning on keeping a card for your personal collection, getting it graded and encapsulated ensures that the card remains in good condition.

If you’re looking to sell your card, getting it professionally graded verifies authenticity and offers a quick and easy way to assess the overall condition of the card. It’s also much easier to determine the value of a card when it is professionally graded. Some buyers prefer graded cards because they don’t have to guess the condition of a card based on blurry eBay photos or shady sellers. PSA graded cards take the guesswork out of buying and selling sports and trading cards.

How Much Does PSA Grading Cost?

The cost to grade a card with PSA is based on the value of the card. PSA offers a variety of service levels with different turnaround times. PSA grading costs can be as low as $19 to as high as $10,000. Most collectors can get their sports and trading cards graded for under $100 per card, but people with high-valued cards can take advantage of PSA’s premium grading services. These premium grading levels range from $1,000 to $10,000 per card and return in three days.

Collectors Club Exclusive Offers

The two lowest PSA grading service levels — TCG Bulk and Value Bulk — are exclusive offers for members of PSA’s Collectors Club. PSA’s Collectors Club is a $99 annual membership that offers the lower grading cost as well as a few additional perks. Both TCG Bulk and Value Bulk require a minimum of 20 cards per order to qualify for the reduced grading cost. For collectors that want to get a lot of cards graded with PSA, it might make sense to join the Collectors Club. For those that only want to grade a few cards here and there, the slightly lower grading cost might not be worth the discounted rate.
